How to mount a sewing projector to the ceiling?

Are you tired of handling papers, measuring tapes, and other sewing tools? It is the right time to stop printing the patterns on paper, measuring tapes, and start using sewing projectors. Here, you will know steps to mount a sewing projector to the ceiling.

Before starting anything new, you should do some planning. Even when we bring a new projector home, it is more important to plan everything from beginning to end before installing it.

Here you will know what you need to do to mount the projector from all through.

Step 1- Decide the location to mount the sewing projector to the ceiling

It is essential to decide the room where sewing projector to be mounted. The lighting setup of the room matters a lot while mounting the sewing projector. Make sure that the room does not have direct sunlight, as brighter rooms make it harder to see projected image on the cutting surface.

Rest the Lumens (measures of brightness) of the projector also matters. The higher the lumen ratings is, the brighter the projector image will be.

Step 2- Deciding the projector placement

Firstly, measure the distance of the cutting surface to the top of the ceiling where you are going to mount the projector. It should not be less than 62 inches. If it is less than 62" then go for the ultra short throw projectors.

Now subtract the length of the projector from distance measured from cutting surface to the top of ceiling, and you will get the projection distance.

For Instance, if the distance between your cutting surfaces to the ceiling is 62 inches and projector’s length is 10 inches then subtract projectors length from distance of ceiling to the cutting surface (62"-10"=52"). 52 inches will be the throw distance of the projector.

Generally saying, the farther projector from the cutting surface, the bigger the throw image will be.

This gives enough image size around 36"X24".

If you have any doubt about the image size, we will suggest you do a little testing. If you are sure about projection size, then skip the testing.

Now put the projector at the measured projection distance and note that you are getting the desired image size. It is the right time to adjust focus and keystone.

Now proceed to mount the projector. Make sure that the projector lens is level with the cutting surface.

Here are some key points you should note while mounting the sewing projector:

  • Use two people to mount the sewing projector
  • Have a flat cutting surface
  • Turn on the projector
  • Note the image
  • Set up the mount as per the instructions
  • Connect the projector to the mount and ensure you are getting an image in level.

Step 3- Now let’s start with projector setup.

Supplies required for setting up the sewing projector:

  • Ladder
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws
  • Mount
  • Projector

Decide the best mount: Before mounting the projector, deciding the best mount for the projector is relevant. The Ball joint mounts are more typical projector ceiling mount. The ball joints have metal bar that is attached to the ceiling and have a round-ball to which projector is attached.

Attach the mount: Follow the instructions given on the projector and the mount kit. Make sure everything is attached carefully and ensure entire mount is attached.

Placement: While placing the projector, It is advised to take the help of your partner. Put the projector into the mount and turn it on. Now using the ladder, hold the projector where you want it and confirm you get the image at the cutting surface.

Mark Holes: While holding the projector mount mark the holes where the projector should be mounted. In this step, also take the help of your partner. After marking holes keep the projector and mount aside.

Install Anchors: Now use the drill, install the anchors where you have marked the holes. The anchor will secure the screws and mount.

Secure The Projector: Now secure the projector using screws and screw driver. Place it within the appropriate range of screen-to-projector distance.

Secure the Cables: Now it’s time to attach the cables to the projector. Read the manual and follow the instructions for this. Use the wire molds that help the cables blend in the wall and reach to the received and power outlet.

It you do not mind to keep cables open, always keep them neat and tidy.

Now it’s time to calibrate it in Adobe.

Calibration: It is the last and the most important step before starting sewing. Mini sewing projectors are easy to calibrate. You can also easily tilt the projector according to the image you want on your surface using remote control.

Here are a few things that you have to check before start cutting the clothes with a sewing projector

Firstly, check the lens of the projector. Make sure the lens is perfectly fitted in the place given.

Make sure the edges of the mount are not hitting the lens.

You can easily read the text on the menu screen.

Then check the focus and keystone are in the centre of the cutting surface.

Overall calibration will take a maximum of 10 minutes. After the calibration just turns on the projector and check the results. It is suggested to use the long power HDMI cord and to attach the cord using the hooks or wire molds to the wall. It will make the overall setup of the place convenient.

Whether you are using the mounts with holes or without holes, the process is similar but the thing that matters, is the calibration. Just with little settings, you can get a perfect image on your cutting surface and get the best output.

Choosing the right projector ceiling mount is very important, and it is suggested to always go for a steady one that takes less time for an installation. The sewing projectors mounted to the ceiling are the best and most lightweight option.

After mounting the sewing projector and calibration, the projector is finally designed for sewing.
